Multilanguage content accessible through permalinks

Hello everybody!
I'm trying to develop a blog section where every article is featured in two different languages (English by default, and Italian on request).

I've been able to build it up using a single content page with two different Text Content, as suggested in this forum, though I was wondering if it would be possible to make it accessible through a permalink instead of query (so, for example, instead of mysite.com/post?lang=it to have something nicer and more SEO-friendly like mysite.com/post/it).

In addition I was wondering if it would be possible to reflect this change also in the sitemap.xml, so displaying two different pages instead of only one, in order to be indexed correctly by search engines for every languages.

Yes, though not without some hackery. I made one such website. You may want to take a look at this post. You won't find any code there, as I haven't found the time to proof it, tho it should give you a general idea of how to achieve it, if you have some coding skills.
