Children for the main/homepage

Hey! I'm trying to port my client's sites from Kirby to Automad, but I stumbled upon a thing that I really don't know how to solve with Automad.

I mostly make block-based pages, so even if it's not a blog I have many children pages, for cards that are then shown to organize the page a bit simpler and to make it possible for clients to easily add new content blocks to their site.

Anyways, is it possible to give the homepage specific-homepage related children?
I got a Jumbotron and then beneath that 3 cards with short descriptions and links to other subpages and these cards are organized with a subpage under the homepage for each single card. Somehow it's not possible to simple make childs to the main-page because then they'll be on the same level as all the other subpages.

To solve that I then created a subpage "Startseite" and put the cards in there but now when someone visits the site he'll still get to the mainpage and not site.com/startseite.
Is there a way to set a different page as the entrypoint - and then also have this other site to be shown when someone visits the document root, so site.com/

Of course you can get the children of the homepage easily. You have to configure a new pagelist like that:

<@ newPagelist { type: 'children', context: '/' } @>

And then you can just iterate the list like that:

<@ foreach in pagelist @> 
    ...
<@ end @>

But when you want get the children of another page, like one of the first level, simply set the context to the URL of that page like /startseite.

Please note that there is technically always just one single homepage on every website. The top level pages are direct children of the homepage then.

One thing more: when you just want to show the content of another page you have two options:

Use the with statement to change the context
Set an URL to redirect to another page

Could you please provide more info about how to implement your 1st suggestion (show the content of another children page on the homepage), using the with statement to change the context.

Sorry for the noob question, but I believe this could be fairly common need, that other users might also find useful. Thanks!

izumitelj Hi, the with statement is used to define a snippet which is executed in the context of another page but can also be used to resize files and get their caption text.

To show the content of another page you can use the following:

<@ with '/example' @> 
    <h2>@{ titel }</h2>
<@ end @>

The example above will always show the title of the page with the URL /example - independent from the actually requested page. You can find more examples and a more detailed explanation in the docs.
