Include all pages in Adam Theme mobile menu?

Dear Automad Community,

I discovered Automad about a week ago and just finished building a small test site using the Adam Theme as a starting point. What a great CMS you have created here Marc.

I have my main navigation in the left sidebar and a link to a single page in the top right (horizontal) nav bar. I noticed that this horizontal page link does not appear in the mobile menu when it kicks in. Is there a way to have these nav bar page links appear in the mobile menu as well?

Kurt8 Hi there! I think you could add a page that shows up in the side bar and redirect it to any page you want or the one you have added to the top navbar.

mad Thanks for your help with this. Yes, that would work but I think I would then have the same link twice in the desktop version of the site.

My main goal is to have all of the site links (left navigation, top navbar, footer navigation) show up in the mobile menu when the break point is reached so that all pages can also be reached on a mobile device. Currently, it is only the left navigation links which show in the mobile hamburger menu. All of my pages are using the sidebar left template. Is that the problem?

I guess what I am ultimately looking for is something like:

Kurt8 Hi, yeah. The Adam theme doesn’t have such a feature. But you can easily duplicate the package and add those items in the template. The template language is very easy to use exactly for such a scenario.

mad I'm glad to hear that this is possible but I am at a bit of a loss on how to get started. I see where I can add these new checkboxes in the template's "Unused variables" but I am not sure how to actually link them up to to actually alter the functionality. I can see that I am going to have to dig into the Developer Guide for this. Is there a specific part of that guide that you can point me to for getting started?

Just finished a 2nd project with Automad (once again using the Adam theme as a starting point) and I am still struggling to find a way to display a navbar link in the mobile menu. Basically, I would like all of the site links (main left sidebar links + a single navbar link to Instagram) show up in the mobile "hamburger" menu when it activates. As it is now, only the left sidebar links are displayed in the mobile menu. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make this work?

Kurt8 I think the easiest would be to add the Instagram link as well to the sidebar. But I understand that you don't want it to show up twice on larger devices.

The reason why that is not supported in the Adam theme was that the navbar is meant to have only links that are supposed to stand out but are at the same time included in the normal navigation. Those items would then be added twice on small devices. However, you will have to change the template in order to make that work.

Thanks for the explanation of what is happening here. Is there some way that I can maybe hard code the Instagram link into the mobile menu only? Then I could leave the Instagram link in the navbar menu on the desktop site, have it disappear when the mobile menu opens and be replaced by the hard coded Instagram link. Does that sound like a good way to proceed? Which template file/code actually deals with the mobile menu? I haven't been able to find the right lines in the code yet.

Kurt8 Hi, you can find the templates in the packages directory. You probably want to search there for the navbar.php element. Make sure you make a copy of the package before modifying it in order to be safe when updating.
