Images not showing in dashboard / Where to set caption?

Hello,
I've just installed Automad and it works fine.
The first thing I'm trying to adjust is the gallery. I've uploaded my pictures (all jpg) into the page directory and set the path to the images (/pages/03.gallery/*.jpg) in the "template variabe" section in the dashboard. Works fine for the frontend: the images are now shown at the website. But not in the dashboard. I'm searching a possibility to set the caption for every image, but I can't find an access to the individual caption-variable in the dashboard. I assume, the images should show up there under "Files"? But there is a "0" and no files are shown. Or is this done in another way, outside the dashboard (per text-file, ect.)?
Does anybody have an idea? Thank you!

Martin Hi, I think you did it all right. Did you upload the images in the files tab of the gallery page? They should appear after uploading and you can normally edit the file caption with clicking on an image. You should be able to do all this without external tools.

I tried it but the images don't appear im the files-tab on the gallery-page. no matter if I upload them at the "files" tab or via ftp.
I also checked the folder permissions, everything seems ok, all folders 755.

Martin What is the file extension of the files?

Martin Hi, did you by any chance change the config.json? It looks like the option for allowed file types is missing JPG and PNG files or is even undefined.

no, nothing is changed.
I even deleted and reinstalled Automad once, same problem.

Martin I'm sorry to hear that. It’s difficult to understand the problem without more details. Could you provide some server infos, like the OS and server type? Can you try maybe another server, in case it is your local machine?

I'm facing exactly the same situation (images not shown in the dashboard but in frontend, no changes to config, fresh install).

Here are some informations for you:

Hosting Type: Shared Hosting
Hoster: strato.de
Package: Hosting Basic
Enabled PHP version: 7.2

If it's helpful for you, I can PM you login credentials for the installation, or the domain name for debugging.

On my other webspaces/servers (IONOS, VPS server) this doesn't happen.

Edit: Maybe it's related to the glob function used in the filesystem core. On some systems (Solaris e.g.) the glob function doesn't work as expected sometimes. I'll create an additional instance and manually test it.

[deleted] Hey, I just released an update and I hope that will resolve this issue. It would be great if you could quickly check if that update works for your environment and report back then.

Hey guys, just noticed, that the latest update just solves half of the issue. After digging a bit more it turned out that some flags for glob() are not supported on some Linux distributions like Solaris. A fix will follow soon. Thanks for the hint!

mad You're right, that doesn't solve the issue. 😅

Concerning the glob() flags I'm not that well informed about the support on different systems, the only incompatibility I so far faced during development was the missing GLOB_BRACE flag on Solaris. That was the reason I mentioned this, even though I didn't check the usage of incompatible flags in the source code so far!

Thank you for your efforts! You saved me a lot of headaches and a search for a bug!

Hopefully the next update fixes it completely! 😄

[deleted] You're right with the GLOB_BRACE flag on Solaris and similar systems. Since it is not supported there, I removed it completely. Thanks again for the hint! 😃

A new version including the fix is available now. I hope that resolves the issue.
