Use API not in headless mode?

Is it possible to utilize the API (and customize the API) without using headless mode?

jasonday Hi there. You can can write a template to actually serve a JSON response. That way you can mix API and normal pages in one installation. Note that the variables should be escaped as follows:

{
    "variable": "@{ text | escape }"
}

However, it's not tested and not an official supported scenario but it should work.

@mad thanks for the info. Further question: So, I would need to handcraft the JSON response for something like getting all entries of a certain type?

Additionally, my 2 cents, but I think it should be the front end that is on/off and not the headless cms/API, as this would allow for more flexibility to use both the frontend and the API to serve content to other platforms.

jasonday Yes you have to create a JSON template. You can basically start with the headless template that is already included.
